What Is the ACT Safer Driver Course? 

The ACT Safer Driver Course is a two-part program aimed at improving road safety by educating young learner drivers about:

It includes a 2.5-hour theory workshop followed by a half-hour practical driving session with an accredited instructor. Upon successful completion, participants receive 20 hours of credit towards their required logbook hours.

Eligibility Requirements

To enroll, you must meet the following conditions: 

  • Hold an ACT Learner Licence (or some other form of Licence) for at least three months

  • Have completed at least 30 hours with a supervisor or 10 hours with an Accredited Instructor. 

Easy Steps to Complete the ACT Safer Driver Course 

 

Step 1: Check Your Eligibility 

Before booking, ensure you meet the Course’s age, licence, and driving experience requirements. 

Step 2: Book Your Spot Online 

Visit the ACT Safer Driver Course page to secure your spot. The $179 fee covers both the workshop and practical driving session. 

Step 3: Attend Part One (Theory Workshop) 

Join the 2.5-hour online workshop on a Sunday morning. During the session, you’ll: 

  • Participate in interactive discussions. 
  • Learn risk-reduction strategies for driving. 
  • Gain insights into the dangers of peer influence, distractions, and fatigue. 

Step 4: Schedule Part Two (Practical Driving) 

Within a few days of completing the workshop, schedule your practical driving session with an ACT Accredited Instructor. Unlike other providers, this session is private—no sharing the car with other learners, as other Providers usually do. 

Step 5: Complete the Practical Driving Session 

During the session, you’ll practice safe driving techniques under the instructor’s guidance, including, for example: 

  • Gap selection 
  • Hazard perception 
  • Speed control 
  • Handling Peer Pressure 

Step 6: Receive Your Certificate

After successfully completing both parts, you’ll receive a Course Completion Certificate. 

Step 7: Submit Your Certificate to Access Canberra 

Take your certificate, logbook, and proof of identity to Access Canberra. You’ll be credited with 20 hours of driving experience
